Exhibition 2017

"How Luther's words learnt to fly" Manuscripts and pamphlets of the Reformation

For 95 weeks, from January 2016 until the anniversary of the Reformation in October 2017, the SLUB will be presenting an original manuscript by Luther and his comrades-in-arms in the online exhibition "95 Autographs of the Reformation Era" week by week with images and commentary. The sources - manuscripts and letters - not only bear witness to the work of the Reformation, but also provide a deep insight into people's everyday lives and relationships.

The exhibition "<link ueber-uns/buchmuseum/ausstellungen-fuehrungen/archiv-der-ausstellungen/ausstellungen-2017/wie-luthers-worte-fliegen-lernten-handschriften-und-flugschriften-der-reformation/>Wie Luthers Worte fliegenten lernen. Czech avant-garde book art. The Vloemans Collection

"I couldn't read the texts, but I understood the design of the books, the witty illustrations and original ideas, the new and special things inspired me," says German antiquarian bookseller and collector Jürgen Holstein, looking back on his encounter with books by the Czech avant-garde. His Dutch colleague John Vloemans was infected by this enthusiasm in the 1970s.

At the beginning of 2016, the SLUB was able to acquire John Vloemans' unique collection and is showing it to the public for the first time in an exhibition at the Book Museum from 6 April to 31 August 2017.

From 19 April to 12 July, top-class academics will speak about Czech avant-garde book art in a series of lectures at the SLUB.
