Rare and Precious Prints
These prints are works from the library's entire holdings, which are separated according to different criteria in various special collections. The separate listing has taken place since the bibliophilically responsible 1920s on the basis of the special furnishings, the book artistic design, the rarity or the provenance of certain prints or copies. These collections are among the library's treasures and are kept under special conservation conditions in special stacks and are only made available for use in the Collections reading room.
In addition to the incunabula, the Jakob Krause volumes and the Electoral Library, the collections include a rare book collection with almost 19,000 prints and a collection of German original editions, which contains rare and precious first editions of German poetry by authors from the 17th to the mid-20th century (1,600 volumes).
