Fees and terms of use

There are usage fees for individual devices in the SLUB Makerspace. All information about the costs, their composition as well as the conditions of use can be found in our overview.

As of 01.01.2023, our fees in the SLUB Makerspace will change.

With the new model, we are creating fairer and more transparent billing for the laser cutter and the 3D printers for plastic and plaster. The fees will continue to be based on the machine running time, but the scale will change. For example, we now charge by the minute for the laser cutter and no longer every 20 minutes. This means that the first 10 minutes will also be charged. For the 3D printers, material consumption will also play a role in the future. All services that were free of charge will remain free of charge. Overall, we have also made sure that the fees for our services remain very low and student-friendly compared to commercial service providers.

You can find a detailed explanation of how they change for the individual units here:

Lasercutter

New fee calculation: 50ct/ min

Until now, we have charged in 20-minute increments. This means that in some cases you will pay less, in others more than before - but overall the billing will be fairer. Here are two past-present comparisons:

Example 1Example 2
5 minutes laser time31 minutes laser time
Previously: 0,00€Previously: 20,00€
Today: 2,50€Today: 15,00€

3D plastic printing

New fee calculation:

Time: 0,05€/10 min

+

Material:

Class 1: 0,02€/g (PLA standard filaments)

Class 2: 0,05€/g (special filaments)

class 3: 0,10€/g (expensive special filaments)

both together will be the fee for a 3D print

So far we have only charged by time. Now we add the material costs. This is mainly to reflect the costs of more expensive special filaments. We have stored which filament belongs to which fee class on OPAL. Here is another model for comparison:

Example: House model

Machine running time:

0,05€* (12h 20 min/10 min)

+

material:

Class 1 0,02€* 58 g

Formerly: 3,80€ and today 4,19€

3D plaster printer

New fee calculation:

Time:

0,30€/10 min (white print)

0,60€/10 min (coloured print)

+

material:

Plaster: 0,02€/cm3+

binding fluid: 0,03€/ml

both together will be the fee for a 3D print.

So far we have only charged by time. 20 minutes cost 1€. We have reduced this. Instead, the costs for the plaster powder and the binding fluid are now included in the invoice. In this way, material-saving models become cheaper. Here are two examples to illustrate:

Example 1: Solid model

Machine running time:

0,30€ * (2h 32 min / 10 min)

+

Plaster consumption: 0,02€ * 197,64 cm3 +

Binding liquid: 0,03€ * 59,9 ml

Formerly: 8,00€ and today 10,55€

Example 2: Hollowed out model

Machine running time:

0,30€ * (2h 32 min / 10 min)

+

Plaster consumption: 0,02€ * 85,37 cm3+

Binding liquid: 0,03€ * 48,8 ml

Formerly: 8,00€ and today 7,98€
