The SLUB houses the world's largest collection of bequeathed papers of the Schnorr v. Carolsfeld family, from which important artists and scholars emerged, especially in the 19th century. The core of the collection is the complete bequest of the painter Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld (1794-1872), who was extremely important for German painting in the 19th century, and his son Franz, who worked as head librarian at the Royal Public Library in Dresden from 1887-1907. Further extensive collections concern the Leipzig painter Veit Hans Schnorr von Carolsfeld (1764-1841) and the best Wagner singer of his time Ludwig (1836-1865).
