Walter Poganietz Collection

Walter Poganietz, founder of the Confectionery Museum in Kitzingen, donated his collection on the cultural history of confectionery to the SLUB.

The trained wholesale merchant Walter Poganietz began to be fascinated by the history of the Sweet Arts as early as the 1980s. At that time, he found extensive remnants of a former historical confectionery or gingerbread bakery in the attic of his parents' house, a half-timbered house dating back to 1556 in Kitzingen, which was proven to have existed between 1722 and 1937.

The collection contains more than 1,400 objects, including the most important relevant printed materials (specialist literature, product catalogs/price lists, magazines, accompanying literature), rare manuscripts (recipe and travel books), as well as a graphic collection from the 18th to the 20th century.
