100 years of the Deutsche Fotothek

In 2024, the Deutsche Fotothek is celebrating its 100th anniversary. To mark the anniversary, twelve photographic positions from the archive of photographers will be presented in four exhibitions under hashtags that also describe the Deutsche Fotothek itself: #MITTENDRIN, #BUNT, #MODERN and #INTENSIVE. The selection reflects the broad spectrum of what photography is: documentation, art, reportage, advertising and experiment - with well-known names and those that are new to discover.

The four main exhibitions are accompanied by the Darkroom presentation in the centre of the Book Museum, which tells a media history of photography in a playful and associative way. The exhibition Everything for the Eye! in the gallery in the reading room on level -2 is dedicated to the history of the Deutsche Fotothek using photographs, objects and archive material. A special edition of Loungeaffairs in the Bib-Lounge cafeteria presents "favourite pictures" by our colleagues, partners and photographers.
